M2M - machine-to-machine communication

Machine-to-machine communication, or M2M for short, is the automated exchange of data between machines. Whereby "machines" are understood to mean systems that are "not based on a computer".
M2M communication is about systems and machines exchanging data without human triggers. Modern automation relies on the networking of machines and systems via Ethernet, WLAN and cellular radio. Established standards, communication protocols and transmission methods from information and communication technology are used.

With it you can also get to places where a landline connection for a dial-up line or DSL can only be installed with great effort. Wired connections are more reliable than radio systems, but wireless transmission is more flexible.
Cellular radio is certainly the most cost-effective and flexible solution for querying statuses, while a wired connection is more suitable for safety-critical control.

The use of M2M in production and plant construction enables machine processing to be carried out without human supervision. Consumption data is queried and parameters are changed via remote access. In critical situations, a control center is informed by SMS, e-mail, fax or voice message.
