Summary

The following part looks at the extraction, properties and use of the Special metals discussed in detail. Because of the striking similarity in behavior and properties in most groups, the metals are grouped into chapters according to their position in the periodic table of the elements. It begins with groups Ia and II a, the alkali and alkaline earth metals, then continues with the transition metals of groups III a to VIII a and finally discusses the special metals of groups III b to IV b. The individual chapters, which are structured uniformly, have different scope, according to the very different meaning and the various industrial applications of the individual special metals.
