A day after the son Karti failed to appear before the CBI, which was called for questioning in the Aircel-Maxis case, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday that the CBI should ask him how he approved the minutes of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), and don't “bother” Karti.

Karti's attorney in a statement said it is wrong that Karti had refused to appear before the CBI. In a series of tweets, former Union minister Chidambaram said, “Sorry [,] ESTW [is] the spread of misinformation. In the Aircel-Maxis, FIPB officials have taken statements before CBI that the permit has been valid. In the Aircel Maxis, FIPB recommended and I approved minutes. CBI should ask me and not press Karti Chidambaram. "

Karti attorney N R R Arun Natarajan said in a statement, “Karti Chidambaram had appeared before the CBI on November 19, 2014 in connection with the same case and responded to all questions. Since then, by the order of February 2, 2017, the Judge Spezial has exonerated the defendants in the case and ended the proceedings.

"So, in response to the fresh cargo to appear, by a response sent by me as a council, a legal objection has been raised that the CBI is not responsible for issuing fresh cargo."

He said he has asked the CBI to "decide the question of jurisdiction first, and in the meantime not to insist on the appearance of Karti."

On Wednesday, Karti had a letter to the CBI through his attorney expressing his unwillingness to join the probe, as all of the defendants in the case had been dismissed from the court. Karti claimed that CBI has no JURISDICTION over the case.
