How do cats keep themselves clean?
You are very fond of your four-legged friends, but there is one problem: they leave hair everywhere! Aside from the scratched furniture, it's probably the most annoying thing to keep you busy around the house. But is animal hair in bed, on the couch or on clothes an evil one has to come to terms with? No! Your cat's or dog's hair will probably never go away completely, but it can be reduced significantly - with our cleaning tips for pet owners! So that the apartment stays clean even with a ball of fur.
1. Floor care
If there is a lot going on in your home Carpeting you need to be extra careful. Because this is a real magnet for animal hair and dander! To reduce this, it is important to vacuum all carpets regularly - preferably every other day. Once a week, however, should be the absolute minimum.
Tiger tip: Pets not only leave hair behind, but also stains of all kinds (e.g. traces of dirt from outside). Sprinkle something for it baking powder on the carpet before you vacuum it. The largest amount first on the stains themselves, then simply scatter the rest over a large area on the carpet. This trick helps keep the carpet fresh and removes the unpleasant animal odor.
Wood, linoleum and other types of flooring do not attract hair and flakes as much as carpets do. However, the animal hair likes to collect here in the wooden grooves and on the skirting boards. Preferably in the corners and small crevices. It is therefore just as important to vacuum these surfaces regularly. Why not sweep Especially allergy sufferers should better reach for the vacuum cleaner, as the allergens are easily whirled up when sweeping and thus get back into the air. Apart from that, the performance of the vacuum cleaner is generally more effective than that of the broom.
Above all, cats are real lazy people who prefer to make themselves comfortable somewhere in the apartment all day long. Whether on the couch, the bed or on the comfortable kitchen chair - everything is full of hair afterwards! A lint roller is recommended for quick and easy cleaning of the upholstery. This effectively removes the hair, but unfortunately does not capture the tiny main scales. Especially for those allergic to animal hair it means again: Bring it onvacuum cleaner! The best way to vacuum the furniture is to use a special upholstery nozzle or brush, which is often included in the scope of delivery. You should definitely also suck in the cracks and slits. If the upholstery is not firmly sewn, it is best to take it off and thoroughly vacuum the surface and the individual upholstery parts.
Tiger tip: If you do not have a suitable attachment at hand, you can also use the conventional attachment. However, since dust and dirt from the floor often sticks to it, it is best to clean it beforehand.
Of course, cat and dog hair also end up in abundance on clothing. In addition to using the classic lint roller, you can also wrap some adhesive tape or painter's tape around your hand and use it to go over the affected areas - it is very helpful, but unfortunately also quite time-consuming. The best trick is still to put the (dry!) Clothes in one before washing dryer to be given, provided that they are suitable for tumble drying. Because of the movement and the air flow in the dryer, the annoying hair ends up directly in the lint filter, which you can then easily clean again. Even if you don't have a dryer, you should always make sure that pet hair is removed from your clothes before washing. Otherwise these can get stuck in the wet tissue and are all the more difficult to remove later.
4. Animal care
Take on the problem by hand - in the truest sense of the word. Because taking care of your animals can reduce severe hair loss. In addition to the right diet, rich in protein-rich omega oils, regular brushing and combing is important - especially during the Change of coat in spring. During this time, it is best to brush or comb your dog and cat daily so that the fight against the tufts of hair and fur balls does not become even more persistent. Brushing also stimulates the animal's blood circulation and dead hair can be removed on the spot - without going through clothing and furniture. Your pet is sure to enjoy the massage session.
Tiger tip: Always work your way through the coat with the hair growth when brushing!
Shaving is strongly advised against dogs, even if they have changed their coat. Without the insulating fur, your fur nose is exposed to cold and heat and sweating increases on top of that. In addition to grooming the animal, pay attention to its general hygiene. In addition to regular cleaning of the litter box, the following applies, for example baking powder as an advanced odor control. Simply mix in with the cat litter - it keeps the toilet fresh and clean longer.
5. Extra tips for allergy sufferers
If your dog or cat prefers to be comfortable on the bed during the day, a bedspread can be very helpful. Because you can simply pull them off before going to bed - and your actual bed linen is largely spared. Nevertheless, it is worth purchasing a so-called Hypo-allergenic beddingbecause it can actually reduce allergies. People susceptible to allergies should therefore use hygienically washable pillows, duvets and covers. Especially if you are allergic to animal hair, it is advisable to invest in good, washable bedding including blankets and bedspreads. Thanks to their dense fabric, the allergy-free pillows made of cotton and polyester prevent the accumulation of dust mites, animal hair, pollen and other allergy triggers. If your pet spends a lot of time on the bed, make sure you wash your bedding regularly and vacuum the mattress every now and then. When choosing the cover material and the filling, we recommend bed linen that is more than 60 degrees - best at95 degrees - Can be washed boil-proof. Because with regular washing and a washing time of at least 40 minutes at high degrees, mites are killed and allergenic substances such as mite particles and mite excrement are washed out of the bed linen.
Tiger tip: Air your pillow and blanket after getting up! Since we at night up to two liters of sweatlose, the bedding must first dry off before the bed is made again. Mites do not tolerate a dry environment very well and are restricted in their reproduction by ventilation. So always ventilate nicely! Incidentally, this does not only apply to allergy sufferers;).
Fresh air is important not only for bed linen, but also for reducing allergic reactions in general. So all of them in good weather Open the window wideso that flakes of skin and dust particles floating around can flow out thanks to the fresh air. This drastically reduces allergy symptoms. But what if it's too cold or too hot to open the windows? In this case, an air purifier can help. There are quite a few affordable ones out there to help you lessen your allergic reactions all year round.
WASH YOUR HANDS
That hand washing is important for allergy sufferers is probably not surprising, and yet it is incredibly important! After touching your four-legged friend, you should avoid touching anything else until you have washed your hands. Otherwise you spread the allergic pathogens to objects and other places in the apartment. Even after the slightest caress, the following applies: off to the sink! Often we unconsciously touch our faces and then the nose and eyes really start to itch. Make sure to scrub under the nails as well, because flakes and secretions of the animal's skin can easily get stuck there. While hand washing is a very basic rule, it is also one to keep reminding yourself of.
You will not be able to avoid cleaning the floors, furniture and clothes, but with a few tricks you can effectively tackle the legacies of your four-legged friends and, above all, greatly reduce the amount of animal hair. When cleaning yourself, this includes regular vacuuming of floors and upholstered furniture (preferably with a special attachment). Also important: by fighting the cause - in this case your pet's hair - the annoying tufts of fur cannot spread so much in the first place.
If you are allergic and would still like to get a four-legged friend, find out more about it first the type of pet hair allergy you have. Most of them are allergic to cat hair, for example, but can tolerate a dog's hair well. This varies from allergy to allergy, but also from race to race. Therefore, do your research well about the different breeds of cats or dogs and their average hair loss. Of course, you should also be aware that pets generally involve a lot of time and work. Especially allergy sufferers have to reckon with more time spent cleaning the house and pay special attention to many things.
