Walking in the home of Jesus of Nazareth? Regardless of the biblical significance of the region, Israel offers a whole range of natural beauties. We hike this on the northern section of the "Jerusalem Way" to the Sea of Galilee. After the highlight Jerusalem, we hike the southern section of the "Israel National Trail". According to National Geographic, the approximately 1,000-kilometer trail is "one of the ten most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in the world". The path leads us through the Negev desert to the southern tip near Eilat. Here we have time to relax and to review the impressions we had on the shores of the Red Sea. Actively discover the beauties of the ancient Galilee!

Day 2: The way to Cana 10.10.21

We start with a walk through the Arab-Israeli Nazareth with its special sights - the impressive Catholic Church of the Annunciation with its countless depictions of Mary from all over the world. From here we climb up through the narrow streets of the old town of Nazareth to the top of the city, from where we have a fantastic panoramic view of the landscapes of the Lower Galilee. Our way to continue to Zippori, the ancient Sepphoris. In addition to a particularly impressive water system, we find perhaps the most beautiful and finest mosaic work in the region in Zippori. From Zippori it goes on to Cana. The place with its Franciscan "wedding church" is reminiscent of the wine miracle at Cana - the first self-revelation of Jesus. GZ 5-6 hours bus transfer to the accommodation and 3 nights in the kibbutz guest house. (F, A)

Day 3: Northern Israel Trail 11.10.21

Running through the landscapes of the Upper Galilee, in the midst of uniquely beautiful nature, is one of the highlights of the Israel National Trail, the over 1,000 kilometers long hiking route from northern Israel to the Gulf of Eilat in the south of the country. The Upper Galilee is characterized by a mountain range, Mediterranean landscape and a cultural diversity of Muslim, Druze, Christian and Jewish inhabitants. Today we hike (after a morning transfer) in the mountains of Meron - the highest point of the Upper Galilee. After crossing its summit (1,208 m) with a panoramic view as far as Lebanon, we descend through a varied forest landscape. We end our tour at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, the legendary founder of the Jewish Kabbalah. Transfer back to the accommodation. GZ 5-6 hours (B, A)

Day 4: Wadi Nahal Amud

After a short transfer in the morning we climb into the upper course of the Wadi Nahal Amud, a dry river bed that leads down to the Sea of Galilee. The path is considered to be one of the most beautiful hikes in the country. We pass water pools, old water mills and thick oleander vegetation. We leave the wadi and climb up to Safed, the third holiest city in Judaism. The town center is characterized by picturesque little streets and a large number of oriental synagogues from the 15th and 16th centuries. GZ 4-5 hours transfer back to the accommodation. (F, A)

Day 5: Sea of Galilee

We leave our accommodation and after a short transfer we go back to Wadi Nahal Amud. Today its lower course and hike further down to the east and towards the Sea of Galilee, which we now see repeatedly appearing in front of us. On the horizon across from us you can see the Golan Heights. In the lower part of the wadi we pass impressive rock formations that give the river bed its name: the "column wadi". At the exit of the columned wadi we come to the valley of Ginossar, "the Prince's gardens", one of the most fertile and lush landscapes in Israel. GZ 6-7 hours overnight at the Sea of Galilee. (F, A)

Day 6: Holy places on the Sea of Galilee

We climb the mountain of Beatitudes. Then we visit Tabgha and remember the increase in bread and fish, but also the end of Jesus' public ministry at the Sea of Galilee. The rest of the way leads us to Capernaum. Franciscan monks have been conducting excavations here since 1894, helping us to better understand the world of Jesus and his language. Then we continue to Jerusalem, where we walk down from Mount Scopus and through the Kidron Valley to the Gethsemanie Church at the foot of the Mount of Olives. GZ approx. 3 hours and 2 nights hotel accommodation in Jerusalem. (F, A)

Day 7: The Old City of Jerusalem

We start the day with Mount Zion, where the most important Judeo-Christian traditional sites are concentrated: the tomb of King David, the place of the Dormition of Mary and the Upper Room. We visit the western wall (wailing wall) from the Herodian period and walk on the famous Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and Resurrection Church. Then we have free time to further explore the city. (F, A)

Day 8: To the Dead Sea

We leave Jerusalem and drive through the Judean Desert again, today to the Dead Sea. Our destination is the rock fortress of Massada. The particularly beautiful path connects desert and history over a distance of approx. 5 km. GZ approx. 2 hours. Then we have earned a swimming break in the Dead Sea. After a lunch break, we continue to the kibbutz in the Negev desert. 3 nights in a kibbutz guest house in the Arava Depression. (F, A)

Day 9: The mountain range of Eilat

Our hiking trail at the southern tip of the country follows the most beautiful southern stages of the well-known "Israel National Trail" to the beach of the Red Sea. The Eilat mountain range is the only region in Israel where light limestone, red sandstone and dark granite coexist, transforming the landscape into an impressive geological patchwork of colors and shapes. Today we are hiking in the wide bed of Wadi Racham for the time being. An ascent over mighty limestone blocks rewards with a wonderful view of the colorful mountains and the Gulf of Eilat / Aqaba in the distance. On the way, the tiny palm oasis "Diklei Racham" invites you to take a break in the shade. GZ 6-7 hours (B, A)

Day 10: Hiking day to the Netafim source

We start the day with a hike through the narrow Shehoret Canyon made of dark granite rock. After a short ascent, we not only have an impressive view, but also the exploration of a beautifully grained and polished sandstone canyon in the valley. Through the wild limestone landscape of Wadi Netafim we finally reach the Netafim spring, the only spring in the Eilat mountains where, with a bit of luck, the native ibex can be seen drinking. GZ 5-6 hours (B, A)

Day 11: The Bay of Taba 19.10.21

We start the last and probably most beautiful stage of the hiking trail at an altitude of approx. 700 m in the Yoash Mountains. Colorful sandstone, limestone and granite accompany us and ancient rock carvings can be discovered along the way. After an ascent we stand in front of the strikingly shaped "Rechavam Hill" and can marvel at almost vertical limestone layers. A final ascent to the Tzfachot mountain reveals the city of Eilat, which is now below us, the entire Gulf of Aqaba and enables a "four-country view" of Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt! A short time later we are already on the shores of the Red Sea. GZ 6-7 hrs. 2 nights hotel in Eilat. (F, A)

After our active exploration of Israel, we now have time to relax. We can process our intense impressions on the beach or spend the time underwater - snorkeling in the Red Sea (optional). (F, A)

Day 13: Tel Aviv

Past the Ramon Crater, today we head north back to Tel Aviv. The afternoon is at our disposal. There is a choice of a little city tour or even a swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Overnight hotel accommodation in Tel Aviv. 340 km. (F, A)

Day 14: Journey home 22.10.21

Transfer to the airport in Tel Aviv and return flight, arrival on the same day. (F)

On our trip we are partly accommodated in the guest houses typical of Israel, the kibbutzim. A sense of tradition and a sense of community come before luxury and comfort in these houses.
