Which Rolex is the best investment Why

Rolex as an investment: These models are the most worthwhile

A Rolex as an investment? It's no longer a secret. One could talk long evenings about the reasons for the increase in value of the most popular Rolex models, because Rolex is the watch brand with the highest recognition, the greatest possible brand awareness and the most myths. A Rolex has always been a safe investment. Men also like to buy a Rolex as a nest egg for difficult times. (Interesting: man has Rolex valued. When he hears the unbelievable value, he falls over)

As has been seen in many thrillers and action films, it is a globally accepted means of payment for bribing a security guard or getting a pilot to take your last seat in a life-and-death situation to give. When things get really tricky, the guy with the Rolex on his arm makes it - that's knowledge learned over generations. Rolex models with future potential

But not all of the brand's models are equally coveted - even if it can be said in general that a Rolex never loses its value in the long term, because the resale prices are based on the current list prices regardless of desirability. That is why even a Rolex Milgauss or an Explorer I never loses its value. Both are not quite as hysterically sought after models. Although they are no longer so easy to get from authorized concessionaires at the list price, they have not experienced the explosive price development of other models. That could change, however, if the taste of the times and the focus of collectors were to orient themselves accordingly. If so, they would be a bargain with potential. Because the Daytona, one can hardly believe it, is said to have been a slow seller in the sixties. In the following we present the “blue chips”, the current best investment opportunities, of the brand. (Also read: The Rolex Myth)

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona - Ref. 116500LN

The Daytona is traditionally the model with the longest waiting list and the only chronograph from Rolex. It is the perfect candidate for an investment because its connection to Paul Newman, who as a racing driver often wears it in old photos, has made it part of cultural history. It owes its popularity to the eye-catching dial variant with the color-contrasting totalizers, which has made it a coveted collector's item. For example, if you signed up for the waiting list in the 1980s with a waiting period of up to ten years, you could purchase the watch at the official list price of 3,068 euros in 1994. The same watch with box and papers would have a resale value of 25,000 to 50,000 euros today, depending on the state of preservation and the color of the dial. Older models achieve even higher prices. Incidentally, the vintage model of a Daytona owned by Paul Newman is the most expensive watch ever auctioned at $ 15 million. If you are lucky enough to be able to purchase a new Daytona today at the list price of 11,300 euros, you can sell it again for almost twice as much at the same time. Rolex GMT-Master II "Pepsi" - Ref. 126710BLRO

The waiting list for this watch was created when it was presented in 2018 at the “Baselworld” trade fair. The new Rolex GMT-Master II was first introduced in 2014 in white gold, then in steel it is a instant hit become. It is nicknamed “Pepsi” because of its red and blue ceramic bezel and is reminiscent of the color scheme of the original plexiglass bezel from the 1950s. This in turn has its very own collector's value, depending on how faded or discolored the dials and bezels are. (Read here: The gold Rolex from "The Wolf of Wall Street")

Another new feature of the “Pepsi” is the elegant Jubilee strap, which was normally reserved for the Datejust models. Whoever gets hold of a new “Pepsi” today pays 9,000 euros, according to the list secondary market but easily from 14,000 euros. Also read: The great watch guide

Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman” 116710BLNR

A similar hype arose around this “Batman” as around the 201834 color variant of the “Pepsi” and thereby also made the old “Batman” models with Oyster bracelet into sought-after collector's items. At the same list price as the “Pepsi”, its resale value is similar and you get almost 5,000 euros for free. (Did you know? This is Elvis Presley's mega-cool Rolex)

When it was introduced in 2019, this color variant was equipped with the technical innovations of the "Pepsi". With the introduction of the new “Batman”, however, production of its predecessor, the 116710 BLNR, was discontinued, including the completely black 116710LN version. This in turn is a good indicator of expected increases in value. (Also interesting: Trend watch in summer 2020: the Tag Heuer Formula 1 is a real rarity)

Rolex Explorer II - Ref. 216570

The Explorer II used to be an inexpensive insider tip. Tempi passati. The predecessor reference as well as the current reference 216570 have become more popular with collectors: Here the Explorer II benefits from the low availability of the other more popular Rolex models. Introduced in 1971, the current model was introduced in 2011. The Explorer II is therefore also a hot candidate for a technical update and a model change with a ceramic bezel. That in turn would limit the availability of the old models and therefore make them an object of speculation. The version with a white dial is more sought after in the case of the Explorer II series than the one with the black dial, because white dials are rarer at Rolex.
