Summary

Many Internet web sites contain JavaScript, a scripting programming language that runs in the web browser to enable certain features on a web page to be used. If JavaScript is deactivated in the browser, the content or functionality of the website may be restricted or not available. This article describes the steps to enable JavaScript in web browsers.

Here's how to allow all websites in the Internet zone to run scripts in Internet Explorer

  1. In the web browser menu, click Tools or the Tools icon (cogwheel) and select Internet Options.

  2. When the Internet Options window opens, select the Security tab.

  3. On the Security tab, make sure the Internet zone is selected. Then click the Custom Level ... button.

  4. In the Security Settings - Internet Zone dialog box, in the Scripting section, click Enable for Active Scripting.

  5. When the Warning window opens and asks, "Are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?" Select Yes.

  6. Click OK at the bottom of the Internet Options window to close the dialog box.

  7. Click the Refresh button to refresh the page and run scripts.

To allow scripting on a specific website while leaving scripting disabled in the Internet zone, add that website to the Trusted Sites zone:

  1. In the web browser menu, click Tools or the Tools icon (cogwheel) and select Internet Options.

  2. When the Internet Options window opens, select the Security tab.

  3. On the Security tab, select the Trusted Sites zone, then click the Sites button.

  4. Enter the addresses of the websites you want to allow scripting in the Add this website to the zone text box and click Add. Note: If the address does not start with “https:”, you may need to clear the “Require server verification (https :)” check box for all sites in this zone.

  5. Click Close, then click OK at the bottom of the Internet Options window to close the dialog box.

  6. Click the Refresh button to refresh the page and run scripts.
