Is Kashmir the next Palestine

India: The Wrath of KashmirARTE report

Time and again there is violence in the Indian part of Kashmir between security forces and separatists who want the predominantly Muslim Kashmir to split off from the predominantly Hindu India. India accuses Pakistan of supporting Islamist fighters in the Indian part and sends tens of thousands of soldiers to the Kashmir Valley.

On February 14, 2019, a young man from Kashmir drove his car fully loaded with explosives against an Indian army bus, and 44 paramilitary forces lost their lives. This attack by a radical Islamist separatist group drew the shocked public's attention to a new phenomenon: it seems that more and more young people from the Indian part of Kashmir want to radicalize and join the rebels. Their resistance precludes any dialogue with the Indian authorities.

The people of Kashmir live in the middle of this conflict, the majority of whom are Muslim. A guerrilla movement against the Indian central government has been fighting for the independence of Kashmir since 1989 - a "war within a war" that seems to increase in intensity every year.
