Which country has the most overweight population?

Germany is one of the front runners | The top 10 fattest countries in the world

Germany is European champion - in getting fat! The heaviest people on the continent live here. Unfortunately, we are also catching up around the world: the USA is the only industrialized country ahead of us in the list of the fattest countries - and that is only very thin!

However, we are in good company. As reported by globalpost.com, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that a total of 2.3 billion people will be overweight in 2015, that is all the inhabitants of China, India and all of Europe combined. Every third person in the world is already considered too fat.

The WHO uses the body mass index (BMI) as a basis for assessment.(You can find more information in the box on the left).

According to this, a person above the value of 25 is considered overweight.

The causes of obesity worldwide have long been known: too much unhealthy food and too little exercise. This applies particularly to the industrialized nations, in which more and more children and adolescents are becoming obese.

At the top of the list, however, are two South Pacific countries that are not known for being overly prosperous.

In American Samoa, for example, almost everyone is considered overweight.

The reason is probably the low price for junk food, which has almost completely displaced the local - healthy - cuisine from the menu.
