How do I download Steam

How to download games from Steam and customize the installation

Procedure Download and install a game on Steam is very easy. The client can only choose us if we want to create the shortcuts and the installation path. By default, this is the client's own directory. However, if we are one of those users who want everything under control and have two or more hard drives, we are certainly interested in being able to customize the download and installation process of the games.

And so we can do it.

Choose where you'd like to install a Steam game

By default, Steam installs all games in the Steamapps> frequently Folder in its installation path. However, if we have two hard drives, or one of them performs better or has more capacity than the other, then we are certainly interested in changing that route.

Steam doesn't offer us any Explore button When we install a game like other installers, we use the "library folders" instead so we can choose the directories where we want to save the games. To get to them we have to open the game client and log in. As soon as we are inside, we open it Steam Menu > Parameters .

We will now see the general options of the Valve game program. In the menu on the left we select the option "Downloads" to see all the options to download and install the games.

The one who interests us at this point is the point of " Content libraries ". From there we can manage all of the content locations to be able to choose in each unit where we want to install each game.

We can see all the content libraries that we have configured in the program. From here we can also add a new library and choose which one to use by default.

We have already chosen the path where we want the games to be installed. But before we leave here we will see other options.

Check the download speed

Aside from choosing where to download the games, another aspect that we might want to adjust is the Download speed . By default, when we download a game, all of our connection is used, which can create problems for other people connected to our network and prevent normal browsing.

Thanks to the download restrictions, we can choose how and when to download the games. For example, we can define a schedule in which files are not downloaded (for example, when we are working) and limit the maximum download speed that we want.

We can also choose to download updates and games while we play or broadcast content. And we can even choose the server from which we want to download the games, which can help us improve the speed and avoid possible problems.

Finally, the " Clear the download cache The "" button allows us to eliminate any download issues that may arise while downloading or running games.

Download and install games

We can see a new window like the one below. This shows how much the game is using, how much free space is available on the hard drive and whether shortcuts should be created at startup and on the desktop. We can also choose where we want to install the game.

Steam reserves the necessary space and begins Download the game files . This process may take longer or shorter depending on the size of the game and our internet speed. We can see the process in detail in the download section of the program.

Here we can control the download speed of the files, the peak speed, the downloaded size and the disk usage while the files are being copied. When you're done, the game is ready to run. And we can see that the blue "Install" Release the button. has changed too a green "play" button .

By simply clicking this button we can start our game and start playing.
