Why should the government pay for education?

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is still committed to supporting BAföG recipients in the difficult time of the corona pandemic. It still applies that students no financial disadvantages should suffer if teaching and examination offers at their training facility are restricted for reasons related to pandemics and / or the start of lessons is postponed altogether.

The following applies in particular to students:

BAföG benefits are (continued) paid from the administrative start of the semester.

Students in federal states who have arranged for an extension of the standard period of study for the summer semester 2020 and / or winter semester 2020/21, which ended under the sign of the pandemic, benefit from this in principle through a corresponding extended maximum funding period. The Federal Ministry has made it clear to the federal states that the postponement of dates associated with an extension of the standard period of study, e.g. for the submission of a certificate of achievement, is reflected in the BAföG.

Students in federal states without an extension of the standard period of study can apply for Extension of BAföG funding due to serious pandemic-related reasons and provide evidence of corona-related study impairments.

In addition, were numerous other regulations, among other things for the graduation aid, foreign funding and in particular the interest-free withdrawal of the KfW student loan as well as for the so-called bridging aid, which was also updated for the current course of the pandemic.
