Adjust indents and spacing

Explore the Options in the Paragraph Dialog Box

In the dialog box paragraph General, Indentation, and Spacing options are available. At the bottom of the dialog box shows you the previewhow the options look before you apply them.

Generally

Alignment

Choose Left so that the text is left-justified with the flapping edge on the right (or press the key combination CTRL + L).

Choose Centered so that the text is centered with the left and right flapping margin (CTRL + E).

Choose Right so that the text is right-justified with the left flapping margin (CTRL + R).

Choose Justified so that the text is left and right justified and white space is added between words (Ctrl + J).

Outline level

The level at which the paragraph appears in Outline view.

Activate Reduced by defaultif the document should be opened with collapsed headings by default. For more information, see Expanding and Collapsing Parts of a Document.

Indent

Left

Indents the selected amount on the left side of the paragraph.

Right

Indents the selected amount on the right side of the paragraph.

Special collection

Choose First line > Around to indent the first line of a paragraph. For information on how to quickly create a first-line indent using the ruler, see Create a first-line indent.

Choose Hanging > Around to create a hanging indent. For information on how to quickly create a hanging indent using the ruler, see Create a hanging indent.

Mirror indents

If you check this box, Left and Right in Inside and Outside changed. This option is used for book-size printing.

This option adjusts the space before a paragraph.

This option adjusts the spacing after a paragraph.

Line spacing

Choose You single to single-space text. For information on how to quickly set single line spacing for the entire document, see Set single line spacing in a document.

Choose 1.5 lines to set line spacing for text that is one and a half times single line spacing.

Choose Double to double line spacing for text. For a quick way to set double spacing for the entire document, see Set double spacing in a document.

Choose At least > Of to set the minimum spacing between lines required for the largest character or graphic on a line.

Choose You Exactly > At out, to set a fixed line spacing (expressed in points). For example, if the text is in 10-point font, you can specify 12-point line spacing.

Choose Multiple > Of to specify a line spacing as a multiple expressed in values ​​greater than 1. For example, setting the line spacing to a value of 1.15 increases the spacing by 15%, and setting the line spacing to a value of 3 increases the spacing by 300% (three times the line spacing).

Do not insert any space

Activate Do not insert any space between paragraphs with the same formattingif you don't want to add extra space between paragraphs.

If you want to save the settings you selected as the default, select Set as Default.

Paragraph dialog box options

The following options are available in the dialog box paragraph to disposal. At the bottom of the dialog box, the preview shows what changes you are making with the options before you apply them.

Generally

Alignment

Automatic adjustment

If you Automatically align right indentation for document grid definition If a document grid is defined, the right indentation for the paragraph is automatically adjusted.

Align with

Choose Align with the grid when defining the document grid to make it easier to align text with the document grid.
