Birth rate

Average number of children
The birth rate (also known as the birth rate) indicates how many babies are born in a country on average in a year. In Germany, the number in 2019 was 1.57 children per woman. This is a statistical number. You can better imagine how many births those are when you convert the figures: For every 1000 inhabitants there were 9.5 newborns in Germany this year, which puts Germany in the bottom of the 190 countries that make it up World there. Things are looking better in other European countries. In France, for example, 11.3 children per 1000 inhabitants were born in 2018. But other European countries have even lower birth rates than Germany, such as Italy or Spain. In Niger and Angola, around 44 babies per 1000 people are born every year for every 1000 people. This is number one in the world.
Possibilities of politics
When the birth rate is low, the population decreases and there are more and more old people than young people. That is not good for a country's prosperity. In Germany, politicians have taken a number of measures to prevent the birth rate from falling any further. People who have children receive financial support. Childcare offers have been expanded. However, these offers are not yet sufficient. Much will still have to be done in the future to support fathers and mothers in raising children.
