What are the books in your library

This is how you can find your way around the library

In libraries you will find information for presentations, term papers or theses etc. You can search for these in the classic way in books or magazines, but of course also in e-books, DVDs or electronic journals.

Access to your Unibib (university library) as well as borrowing books or internet access is usually free of charge for you with your student ID. In many bibs you also have the option of copying or printing. To do this, you use your student ID, which you have loaded with some money beforehand.

So that you don't embarrass yourself the first time you visit the Bib, we have put together a few rules that you should follow:

1. Always put books back in their place

Of course, it can always happen that you no longer know which shelf you took the book from. Then it's best to leave it in your place or give it to the library staff. If books are sorted incorrectly, the employees put them back in the right place, but this is associated with more effort.
Therefore: Make it as easy as possible for the library staff and your fellow students and put the book back in the exact place on the shelf from which you took it.

2. Eating forbidden

Water from closed bottles is allowed in most libraries. However, you'd better have your lunch in the cafeteria.
There are just things that have no business in the library!

3. Adjust your volume

The bib is a place to concentrate on your work. Your fellow students want to prepare for their exams here or write their term papers or theses.
So it's better to postpone your group work or conversations about the last party until later or meet in the group rooms of the library.

4. Mute mobile devices

You are welcome to take your smartphone, tablet or laptop with you to the university library to write, research or work. You can usually use the university's WLAN for this.
But remember to switch the devices to silent so as not to disturb anyone with unnecessary noises.

5. Don't just pocket books

Sounds insignificant - but it happens again and again. The books are secured, so a signal goes off if you want to leave the library with a book that has not been loaned out.
In order not to attract everyone's attention, before leaving the library, check whether a book you have been working with has accidentally slipped into your pocket.

Borrowing books - this is how it works:

Have you selected some media in the library catalog that contain important information? But what's next? You can check availability directly in the online directory. The access data for your account are usually your matriculation number and a password that you have assigned yourself. The universities use different catalogs for the library.

There are different systems of order in libraries. The media can be sorted alphabetically according to the first letter of the title or the author, according to key words, according to key words, systematically according to subject areas (medicine, sport, economy, etc.) or according to the location in the library (room, shelf, subject, signature, etc.) ) are sorted.

If the chosen medium is available for borrowing, you can choose it from the shelf, take it home and, when the loan period expires, bring it back to your university's library. When the loan period expires, you will be shown in your loan account. If you still need the medium after the deadline has expired, you can apply for an extension. However, the extension can only be carried out if no one else has made a note of it.

Have you picked out media that are currently not available because another student at the university has already borrowed them? Then you can look for a suitable alternative in the library holdings of the specialist library or reserve the books and borrow them yourself after the loan period has expired.

Unless you have made a reservation, all of the media at your university are freely accessible to you and you can fall back on an extensive inventory for your literature research.

With these tips nothing can go wrong and you will be able to successfully complete your studies including homework and exam preparation!
