The Bundesliga

The 1st Bundesliga is the top division of football in Germany. It has existed since the 1963/1964 season. 18 teams play in the 1st Bundesliga, two to three of which are relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of each season. In return, the same number of teams from the second division will be promoted to the top division. At the end of each season, the team with the most points is crowned German champion.

The clubs in the Bundesliga

The most successful club in the history of the Bundesliga is FC Bayern Munich: From the start of the Bundesliga to the 2019/2020 season, the team has scored a total of 3,769 points, making it the front runner in the all-time league table of the first Bundesliga. In addition to FC Bayern Munich, the first division club Borussia Dortmund has a particularly large fan base. Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli were the most popular teams in the 2nd Bundesliga.
