Think about it, would you like to read something or something that speaks to you more naturally? Google and other search engines want to reward their users with the latter. Hence, it is best to only write content with a natural feel.

Enter keywords for the Latent Semantic Index (LSI) - the wasted gold nuggets that target the practical side of content that readers and search engines prefer.

What are LSI Keywords?

If you're looking for a universal definition of LSI keywords (also known as long-tail keywords), you will find answers everywhere. In simple terms, latent semantic indexing includes identification Synonyms and plural forms your most important keywords.

The perspective is that by finding similar words for your primary keywords you can add a natural element to your content. The ability of search engines to find an analogy between the main keywords and the LSI keywords also helps maintain natural relevance (this is what is semantically referred to in LSI: "referring to different meanings of the nouns or symbols).

Search engines use LSI keywords to determine what your content is about. For example, if your primary keywords are "Apple Smartphone", you don't want search engines to relate your content to terms like "Samsung Smartphone" or "LG Smartphone".

If you searched for 'best cakes' in the previous example, you would get the following results:

Note that the method used to identify individual LSI terms may not always produce the expected results. You may not be able to find matches for your primary keywords if they don't have LSI keyword mappings.

Google and other search engines have a place at the bottom of the search results page where they suggest other searches that the user might want to do. This location displays the LSI phrases for the search term you are looking for. Every time you search for a keyword, you will get at least 8 LSI keywords in the corresponding search section of Google. These LSI keywords can be used in conjunction with LSI terms that you find from other sources when writing content for your primary keyword (e.g., "Best Cakes").

You can use Google's Keyword Planner to find ideas for keywords and ad groups. Essentially, you are given a list of LSI keywords that can be used in your content. To use the Keyword Planner, create a new Google Account or use an existing account to log in at the following url:


After logging in, the Keyword Planner will ask "What would you like to do next?" Select the first option, "Search for new keyword and ad group ideas", and enter your keywords (our example is the best cake) in the "Your product or service" search bar. Then click on "Get Ideas".

Select the second tab, Keyword Ideas, to see a list of relevant keywords. The tool shows the LSI keywords along with the monthly competition and the average cost per click.

There are several keywords that have little competition in monthly searches - these should be included in your content as they give your text a higher chance of ranking well in search engines.

Tools like Market Sumari and Long-Tail Pro function similarly to Google Keyword Planner, but offer more LSI keywords for your primary keyword. However, the user has to pay a monthly subscription fee to access the full range of features offered by these tools.

You can take a free trial (which will limit the number of search terms and results) to get a feel for things before starting the subscription option. WordPress users can also take advantage of LSI plugins like SEOPressor. Such plugins fall under the premium plugin category and cost $ 30 to $ 50 for life. However, your LSI suggestions may not be as detailed as web-based tools designed solely to discover LSI keywords.

Important NOTE

Before you start bombarding LSI keywords into your content, it's a good idea to get things organized. Make a list of all the keywords that could be used on a topic and start grouping them. Pick the ones that people would type in to search engines when searching for your topic.

Pick three to five that belong together and create small groups of three to five keywords until all of the new keywords you discover are grouped together. Then insert these keywords into the content of your website pages.

Google Alerts

You can use Google Alerts to set up a notification for your master keyword. This will notify you every time new content is posted on the web and indexed on Google for your primary keywords. The content goes straight to your inbox via email.

For example, if you set up "Best Cakes" alerts, the Alert Preview tab will provide suggested titles that were recently published and indexed on Google. Future content for this keyword will be sent to you via email. You can review the content to look for new topics and LSI keywords in your niche / industry.
